  1. Ellira says:

It’s Ben?!?! Or am I just totally confused?

  2. Toasty Turkey says:

    quoi?

  3. Jess says:

And the plot thickens!! So this is the guy that Judah Tucker was going to court marshall for desertion, but who died of his wounds before that could happen… I bet he has unfinished business – the kind where he needs to prove that he wasn’t actually deserting!

But seriously. Alone in an attic in the middle of nowhere with a dead soldier. That would be so totally creepy.

    • Sgt. Howard says:

I’ve been in similar circustances- the dead don’t bother the living much unless they have unfinished buisness, as seems to be the case with this gentleman. I would not be suprised to find he is related to Ben- sometimes they will find it easier to talk to blood, but that is not always the case- we shall see, the similarity might be nothing more than similarity. It will be interesting to see how this fellow describes his situation, as he does seem mute… but from my experiance, this is seldom too big of a hurtle.

  4. max says:

I’m still in doubt whether D. Butterfield is a “real ghost”, but I like where it takes us.
And he does look suspiciously like our old friend Ben now that they share a frame.

    • Bex says:

Isn’t that ‘B. Butterfield’? I thought it was a D at first, but if you look closely there is a faint loop above that.

  5. Bex says:

OMG HE’S THE COURT-MARSHAL GUY! (*just reread the previous page’s comic to remind self who ‘Butterfield’ was*) Obviously he has some unfinished business here at the site of that battle… he must have died from his wounds before he got the chance to say his piece? I hope so, because I’d like to think that our ghosty is really a nice guy ^^

    • mason010 says:

ZOMG YOUR RIGHT!! i bet he WASNT deserting!! this is gonna ROCK!!! i bet ben is so creeped out. And i do think its B. Butterfield, as the first letter looks extremely similar to the ” b” In Butterfield. (not trying to be mean, just informative) Source:I’ve had 2 handwriting analysis classes. The slants, proportional size, and the slope of writing on both letters, are all consistent.

  6. BTF says:

    Nah, tis just a cursive D. :P

And perhaps he had the uniform because it belonged to a northern relative who was killed or something? D:

    • Mercy says:

Sometimes Confederate soldiers wore Yankee uniforms, or pieces thereof, because of the severe clothing shortage in the South. A lot of Union accounts mention captured Rebel prisoners wearing looted USA overcoats.

  7. Elwen says:

    O.O Coolest. Page. Ever!!!

And I’m trying to work with a ghost character of mine for the Project Minotaur contest on devART, and you’ve given me the idea to fiddle around with monochromatics/ sepia tones :D Yay! Thank youuu!

  8. Ravenjade says:

“Oh man, dude, thank god you found me, I’ve been up in this attic for FOREVER”

  9. Folktale says:

The expression are just awesome on this page! I love the look in Ben’s eyes in the third panel from the bottom – and the Ghosty Butterfield’s stare! I can’t wait to see where this goes! :D

  10. Littoria says:

One of Ben’s previously undiscovered ancestors?
And the ghost’s expression in panel 9 makes me so sad, oh my god.

Love this page. The LIGHTING is incredible. :D

  11. Jillian says:

DUDEDUDEDUDEDUDE. This is so fantastic! I love how Ben’s all like…”o.o” Then “Hi…I’m Ben!” That is so totally him. <3 I AM LOVE WITH THIS COMIC. I will marry it and have its awesome babies.

  12. Sean says:

    BEAUTIFUL ART WORK FTW!!!!!!!! :D

Also, now we can REALLY see the difference between him and Ben, like the different nose and face shapes. But he *does* kinda look like Davy…
Ghost: I have returned to avenge my… erm, still living descendant.
Ben: o.o …I will never tie Davy to a tree again.

  13. Christine says:

AWESOME! They are totally related they have to be! And I love how this plot is thickening!

  14. Wynne says:

Nice glassy eyes there, Mr. Ghosty McButterfield. I like the way they shine like a cat’s in the dark. I wonder if Ben can take his hat, or if McButterfield can write, cause charades might take a while.

I love how this ties back to Jeremy’s story earlier.

  15. Redd says:

I guess that isn’t Judah Tucker.

I can’t wait to see where this goes. :D

  16. open.window says:

that is defiantly a B. And I would love it if he was called Ben as well! :D I think he must be related to Ben in some way, they look far too similar for it to coincidence. I mean, Charlie mistook it for Ben the first time she saw it as well…

  17. AlpineBob says:

Wow, Mr Butterfield looks awfully solid, but I wouldn’t want to touch him to see. Too creepy.
He’s the same somatype as Ben, but I don’t see a strong resemblance past that – I think the people seeing more are seeing what they want to see.
I was wondering why he switched hands, but then I realized he had to use two hands to turn the hat around so his name would be visible, and it just ended up in the other hand. The first initial is definitely a ‘B’ – a cursive ‘D’ has a very different look. I guess I better start writing my name in my clothes. If I I end up a ghost I’ll whip out my underwear. ;p
I wonder how they will communicate – perhaps there is a ouija board up here old BB can point Ben towards?

    • Ruby says:

well…other than their somatotype, they also have the same nose and a similarly shaped face from the front. If you look at Ben’s face in panel 3 and B.B.’s face in panel 7, this is particularly evident. Anyway, yes, Ben is a jokester, but there must have been a reason that Charlie was so willing to believe Tess and Jeremy’s suggestion that the ghost was actually Ben.

      • Ruby says:

what I’m trying to say is there is an actual legitimate basis for believing in the existence of a familial connection

  18. Amy says:

I hope he was deserting. Yay Union! It’s true, he and Ben look very similar…..hmmmmmm.

  19. Dani says:

    I can only hope I would be as calm… but I know I wouldn’t!

  20. Lynnyanne says:

Okay, not going to lie, I have two feelings about this ghost. One, he creeps me the hell out, and two, i want to like him because he looks sad. :[

  21. Amy says:

the lighting of this is awesome..
    I love this arc

  22. bastille says:

well. i just spent the better part of this morning reading all of this. <3
    consider me hooked~ D:

  23. Angelina says:

    MAN THIS GHOST IS SCARY

  24. Caitlin says:

Bahahaha the second to last panel is so creepy! I totally love it!

  25. Ruan says:

Just wanted to say that I stumbled on this webcomic almost completely by accident, started reading in one night and just couldn’t stop! I love the characters and the stories, and I’m now going to keep reading as long as you all keep writing and drawing! :D

I want to say that your Dan Butterfield ghost is perhaps one of the scariest ghosties I’ve ever seen.

  26. art4 says:

Just read through this cimic today from get to go. Great story thus far and the artwork is looking great also. If this story continues to flow as easily as it has, you’ve got another loyal follower on your hands.

  27. Jen says:

A logical reason for him to be wearing a Federal uniform would be if he was going to attempt some spying.

It’s interesting that he’s only shown himself to Charlie and Ben. Of course, now because Ben’s being receptive, he’s probably going to see him all the time, and have conversations in seemingly empty rooms. And people walking by will just think, “Yep, Ben’s doing the crazy again.”

  28. Cat says:

    Such…pretty…eyes…Ben has…

  29. kate says:

    ZONKS!!!
so amazingly good! everything! the art, the dialogue, the story!
Hailey and Bridget you two are doing an amazing job and i am so looking forward to tomorrow!

  30. hanna says:

I’m loving the range of expressions from Ben.

  31. Lauren says:

    Ah! so good!

  32. Yochva says:

    ohgodohgodohgodohgod, so CREEPY…

    Kyaah, creepy…… *whimpers* o_o

And by the way, did they really write their names in their hats? That’s the EASIEST thing to lose on the battlefield. Then again, it’s the easiest thing to lose, period. So perhaps nevermind.
