Dang, I’ve missed a bunch—Coolidge was #30, and I’ve got him at 24. And I’m sure the order between Monroe and Buchannan is botched, too. I should probably look into this newfangled thing cant “teh interwebs”, which is supposed to be this series of pipes connected to something or other that can tell you stuff like this, if you push the right button.
Thats OK I dont care for soccer either. That granddad doesn’t seem to care for his childrens good deeds? I may not know all the presidents….but I know all the Chancellors of the Galactic Republic.
Haha, yes! Last year my roommate decided she wanted to learn all the presidents because she’s studying to be a teacher, so we spent a significant chunk of time watching that video on youtube. Animaniacs is the best!
“Hi Ho/ do you know/ the names of the U.S. residents/ who then became the presidents/ and got a view from the white house loo of Pennsylvania Avenue….”
My older cousin’s not much younger than Charlie, and she’s played on sports teams her whole life. If this is the late 80′s, then it’s not too inconceivable.
I totally did not even think of that. But my cousin who is about Charlie’s age also played on soccer teams for most of her childhood, so hopefully it’s not too inaccurate! You can see my historical knowledge really falls apart come about 1965…
Because of Title IX, most high schools tried to have a balance of girls’ and boys’ athletic teams in the mid-1980s. I went to high school at the time in New England, and girls’ soccer was widespread. It was easy for schools to add girls’ soccer teams, because they usually had a boys’ soccer team already and they didn’t need to add a new field or buy a whole slew of new equipment. The number of high school girls playing on soccer teams quadrupled during the 1980s.
This was Adorable!! I love that she gats the attention for this, speaking as someone who often didn’t. lol
I just through the entire comic and I just wanted you to know that I’m in Love!! I can’t wait to read more!
I just stumbled upon this comic today, and I just wanted to congratulate you on the wonderful job you’re doing. I read hundreds of web comics ,and I am very surprised that I haven’t come across yours before now. Keep up the good work! You have won over another fan!
That was so adorable, and I love that only Charlie gets a smile. I don’t actually feel too sorry for the other kids because I have a feeling they get a lot of attention for all their achievements from parents and other relatives, but I bet Charlie and her special history interests don’t often get noticed. X3
I’m so happy to be seeing comic strips again! =D Can’t wait until next update!!
So Grandpa’s the original history buff in the family! Looks like Charlie comes by it honestly. I bet that’s a big bonding thing between them.
This kinda harks back to Ben’s family, where his brothers get all the attention for being celebrities and having cool jobs and poor reenactor Ben gets neglected. Charlie’s the other side of that familial coin.
“Charlie, you FOOL! You have awakened Grandpa’s mustache and now it’s COILING BACK TO STRIKE!”
Seriously though, keep up the good work. Pages like these are worth the wait.
Okay so I love little Charlie’s first appearance, that face is way beyond adorable. Nice touch with the missing tooth. But I’m a little bit worried about the grandkid with the drawing of the flower… Her sun has a face of fury going on. He’s definitely about to eat that flower. So… what does she grow up to be? (Out of curiosity).
It’s so cute. Grandpa grandpa grandpa listen to MY achievement and tell me how awesome I am!! Then Charlie: Oh man Granpa I did the COOLEST THING I KNOW MY PRESIDENTS IN ORDER AND EVERYTHING. Grandpa: curly mustache smile of approval. <33333 So cute.
Oh, and by the way, just something I never got to say: Charlie has THE BEST JOB EVER. Seriously. I would love to have that job. I remember the reenactments for school field trips and visiting the farms with the different exhibits and stuff was the best ever….. I'd love to get into that field almost as much as my other two I'm looking at – teaching and fine arts. They all intersect! …..mostly. XD
Wow, I’m sorry – I love this comic and it looks like most people here are grooving on this particular strip…but i just gotta say it – Charlie’s grandpa is a JERK! I don’t care if he was beat up every day after school by a summa cum laude soccer-playing florist – any decent adult would spread his affection and approval around to *all* his progeny.
I don’t view it as a Grandpa isn’t spreading his love or anything like that, he’s just more interested in one of the things. Kind of like when you tell your great grandfather you programmed some great new thing – he may not really understand what exactly is so great about that (with that generational gap and all) and just give you the ‘oh, that’s nice’ type of answer. But if you say something that he can connect with – like for me, my grandpa used to work in an orchard, so when I told him about how much fruit we were getting on our trees, he thought it was great. If I mentioned hey, I passed my driver’s exam with no marks against me, it was more of a oh, ok…. I’m assuming that’s a good thing.
So anywho, I just see it as grandpa understands the context of Charlie’s exploit a little bit better, is all. [/endrant]
Seriously? You’re rationalizing this by assuming gramps doesn’t understand sports, or pretty pictures, or what an A on a school paper means?
Obviously, you are free to take the characters as you wish (as are we all), but my first impression of C’s grandad still remains one of a man with a certain lack of empathy – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. People in the real world – interesting, important people – have flaws, sometimes profound ones. It would be a thin drama that didn’t reflect that truth.
May as well check out Alice in Wonderland Lewis Carroll x Lisbeth Zwerger.Equally classic cpoianomn illustration. Zwerger’s illustrations add a layer of disturbing silence to that already disturbing and absurd ambiance of Wonderland.
So cute!
Charlie!
Lessee, I haven’t tried this in years (and the parts up to McKinley always cross me up):
Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Monroe, Tyler, Taylor, Pierce, Jackson, Van Buren, Buchannan, Lincoln, Johnson, Grant, Hayes, Cleveland, Harrison, Cleveland, McKinley, Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson, Coolidge, Harding, Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan (my first vote went to Anderson), Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama
I wonder which one of these it i bzzztt …
:: zzzt! :: Ah. That did it.
Here’s the whole list, with my misplacements and omissions in bold.
Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Adams, Jackson, Van Buren, Harrison, Tyler, Polk, Taylor, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchannan, Lincoln, Johnson, Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Harrison, Cleveland, McKinley, Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan (my first vote went to Anderson), Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama
Charlie was likely a Reagan kid, yes? And this would have been an event during Bush the Senior’s term?
You missed my great-great-something-grandfather, Millard Fillmore! I forget where after Lincoln he’s president. =/
Oh, never mind. =)
OMG The grandpa looks so much like my old history teacher… O.O
Thats OK I dont care for soccer either. That granddad doesn’t seem to care for his childrens good deeds? I may not know all the presidents….but I know all the Chancellors of the Galactic Republic.
No, no, no.
What you have to do is sing the Animaniacs song.
Agreed. George Washington was the first, you see…
The Mustache of Awesome Speaks.
I had to go and watch that video on youtube after reading that… LOL
For a minute I thought grandpa was jeremy :) oops
Haha, yes! Last year my roommate decided she wanted to learn all the presidents because she’s studying to be a teacher, so we spent a significant chunk of time watching that video on youtube. Animaniacs is the best!

I love the grandfather!
Awwwwhawhaw I love how his mustache curls up when he smiles.
Awww! I love little Charlie! She’s so excited and adorable with her mussed up pigtails! And I do love the grandfather and his mustache of awesomeness.
:( grandpa looks like my grandpa
Aww, I love where this is going already. I was my grandfather’s favorite, too. *sniff*
… Grandpa’s a jerk. =V
Also, that girl sure is progressive for her time… her soccer team. o3o

Omg, your avatar is naussica! You are awesome.
Oh. My. Gosh. This was soooooo stinking cute :) Charlie comes from a big family, doesn’t she?
I feel bad for the other kids though :(
Oh, and the lighting in Panel 3 was wonderful :)
Adorable! <3
Soooo cute! I really like this page!
SO, I JUST READ THROUGH YOUR COMIC. AND NOW I’M ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED TO GO TO SLEEP OR DOWNSTAIRS (its 12:15 am) BECAUSE THERE MIGHT BE A GHOOOOST.

Adorable. (By the way, I know all the prime ministers of Canada in order. Beat that.) I love you comic! Keep up the good work.

Good point, I like the parallel. Poor Ben xD
:3
I’m really enjoying the new site design. And I’m so happy there is a new page it’s so adorable.

I am thrilled that this is continuing!
I would smile, too, if little Charlie came up to me and told me she had learned all of the Presidents, in order.
I have no idea of US presedential order, but then I’ve lived in Australia all my life :D
Loving the comic. Only recently discovered it and have reread it already. Hanging out for the next update!
Just want to say that I read the entire archive in one sitting today and it was very much worth it, thanks for such a great comic. Hope to see more.
that’s pretty much azmaing. I think you should still do one, because I can imagine Finn giving you more of a workout than that other toddler lol!
