Weeks late, here’s the page I intended to finish and post after Paris.

As unfortunate as it is, I think I’m going to have to cave in to saying that I’ll just update whenever I can. A lot of my creative energy is going into planning my senior film, and into taking advantage of being out in the French countryside sketching and painting as much as possible. Dovecote is important to me, but for the time being it’s taken a back seat to these other endeavors.

I want to make it through Ben, Tess, and Jeremy’s backstory comics at least, so a page might appear every once in a while. It’s not much, but it’s something.

Off to a bit of a rocky start here with Dovecote’s return. This week they’re whisking us away to Paris, and I won’t be able to work on or update Dovecote until I get back. But I’m thumbnailing all the upcoming strips, so updates will start rolling smoothly soon enough.

I can’t tell you how much it means that you all were waiting and checking the site during our long absence. We’ve got the best readers ever :)

After one of the most intense quarters of school I’ve had yet and a whirlwind spring break of travel and internship interviews, I’ve touched down in my home for the next two months: the village of Lacoste in southern France.

Dovecote has been out of commission for quite some time now, which has been just as frustrating for me as I’m sure it was for everyone wondering where we’d gone to. While I do have a lot of projects still ongoing while I’m here, I feel so refreshed and excited to be doing art here that I really want to make good on my promise and pick up Dovecote again. I’m hoping for once-weekly updates, possibly on Sundays or Mondays depending on how things go. Keep an eye out this coming week – I should have a new page up soon enough :)

As you may have noticed, I literally fell off the face of the earth for a few weeks.

After starting what I thought would be a fairly easygoing quarter back at SCAD, I found myself really, really severely overcommitted. I knew this would happen eventually, what with my chronic inability to say “no” to new projects, and I’m just sorry it was Dovecote that had to suffer for it. I miss drawing Dovecote so much.

All is not lost, though! I have three and a half weeks left in this quarter, and shortly thereafter I fly to France. I’m only taking two classes while I’m abroad, not to mention being forcibly removed from the possibility of volunteering for any more short films. So, I may finally, finally have the time to get back to Dovecote.

Next comic will be posted… soonish! It’s partially sketched at this point and still needs to be polished, inked, and colored. I’ll keep you updated on the progress and will have it ready as soon as possible :)

Comic Creator’s Alliance – VIP!

Hi guys – this is a very late announcement, but I didn’t want this to slip past unnoticed. This year the Comic Creator’s Alliance is doing a fundraiser to support organizations that fight sex trafficking. It’s a hugely important cause and one that needs all the help we can give. The donation drive ends Tuesday, so if you see this post before then, please consider donating here.

Why do the CCA again in 2011? Why participate again? Why donate again? Didn’t we do this last year?

I know that it is easy for a message to get stale. And we had a great drive last year ($10,000!) and it is going to be hard to match that again this year. So why even try?

Do you know a survivor of rape? of childhood molestation? Unfortunately, I do–and I bet you do too. The scars sexual abuse leaves on a person should make you angry. It should work you up. It’s not right. And it’s happening not just domestically, but as a world wide industry. People out there are getting rich off of the repeated rape of children who cannot escape.

It should make you sick.

It’s why we’re doing the CCA again. It’s why I’m begging you for donations again. 110 people contributed their fantastic creative talents to offer you a little incentive to give some money to our cause. Did you give last year? Give again, won’t you? The problem hasn’t gone away.

So way back in about 2008 when this comic was first being born, if you will (gahhhh sooo loooong ago!), I sent Bridget character lists with sort of absurdly detailed backstories. Some of it has made it into the comic, some of it has proved completely irrelevant, and some of it I kept hoping would come up but never actually did. So, the following sort-of-arc will consisit of some combination of those categories of information. :)
